The issue of the protection of the environment has been firmly anchored in our corporate guidelines for many years. Our corporate culture is characterised by these guidelines to which every employee also subscribes: “We protect and care for the environment. Sparing use of resources and eco-friendly production sites are our commitment.” (extract from our company mission statement).



Rosenheim has been the headquarters of Gabor Shoes AG since 1966. In Rosenheim designers and modellers develop over 400 shoe models per season, experts test technical innovations, staff work in research and development, administration and sales. Export worldwide is also controlled from here and the production of the prototypes is carried out in Rosenheim.


Banovce is the newest and by number of employees largest of the company’s locations. Here 1492 employees (as of 31 December 2016) manufacture standard products and samples.


In 1991 the Silveiros factory was put into operation. In Silveiros Gabor is considered as a model company. Gabor also leads the way in matters of initial and continuing vocational training. The factory has grown continuously in the last few years and currently employs 1324 staff (as of 31 December 2016).

Sustainable production

For the protection of the environment and its resources

Around 90 percent of the shoes made by us come from our own manufacturing facilities in the EU: Rosenheim in Germany, Banovce in Slovakia and Silveiros in Portugal.

Long-standing partner companies produce around 10 percent of our shoes. Here too, it is of the utmost importance to us that the production is done in accordance with our quality specifications and our high environmental and social standards.

Our agents, subcontractors, suppliers and franchisees are bound by a code of conduct to comply with the following minimum standards:

  • freedom of employment – prohibition of forced labour,
  • freedom of association and collective bargaining,
  • exclusion of child labour,
  • prohibition of discrimination,
  • appropriate reward and professional advancement,
  • health and safety at work,
  • regulated working hours
  • environmental protection
  • animal protection.



By manufacturing primarily in our own European factories we keep transport routes as short as possible and meet the strict EU directives in matters of environmental protection.


In logistics too we strive for sustainability. This for example all our deliveries by the Austrian postal service are completely climate-neutral. This was achieved by savings, the user of alternative forms of energy and, where emissions could not be avoided, by the support of certified climate protection projects to compensate these emissions.

Recyclable materials

Recyclable materials such as transport packaging, PE, board, cardboard packaging etc. are consistently recycled whereby several hundred tons of greenhouse gases are saved annually.

  • Through recycling Gabor Shoes AG succeeded in saving 3.729 tons of ressources in 2018. That equals 472 tons of greenhouse gases avoided.

  • The subsidiary company Gabor Footwear GmbH also avoided more than 90,000 kilograms of greenhouse gases. The weight of the saved packaging equals that of 1,776 apple trees.

  • All deliveries by the Austrian postal service were CO2-neutral.


Careful and sparing use of resources is a part of our environmental management system which is based on the foundations “avoid”, “reduce” and “recycle”.

One example of this are our packaging, advertising materials and printed matter: here we either work together with printers who are have the capability for climate-neutral printing or we use PEFC-certified paper which guarantees that wood and paper products come from sustainably managed forests. Our packaging is made from more than 80% recycled material.




We also expect from our partner businesses and suppliers a clear commitment and serious efforts to protect the environment and ongoing improvements with the objective of eco-friendly, clean production.

Gabor favours partners who

  • eliminate substances harmful to health or the environment from their products, their production and their other processes,
  • take measures to conserve resources, reduce pollution and waste, and lower energy and water usage,
  • assume responsibility for appropriate waste management,
  • have an environmental management system,
  • regularly publish the effects of their activity on the environment through regular reports.


The leathers used by us come exclusively from well-known tanneries. For quality and fashion reasons we source the leathers primarily from Italy. We do not buy from leather merchants, we buy directly from the manufacturers with whom we have been doing business for many years. The origin of the leathers is therefore known to us. In addition to that, our leathers are regularly certified.

Even in retrospect we can prove where the leather for the shoes from our factories comes from. Our own leather inspectors check each individual hide and label it clearly before despatch to the Gabor factories. When the leathers arrive in our factories they are given so-called lot numbers to which batch numbers are allocated in the course of the shoe production. All this is recorded and archived electronically. The batch numbers are in addition stamped into the shoes. So even later on the origin of the leather can be retraced right back to the individual shoes.

In the choice of our suppliers we favour those who have installed an EMAS or ISO 140001 environmental management system or are certified worldwide to the standard of the Leather Working Group.
